12 Turkeys

Friday, December 11th, 2009

With the Christmas holidays fast approaching you’d think the camera would have snapped up all these pictures of tree decorating and holiday cheer.

Ah no.

Too many pressing concerns have left me a little behind on the holiday cheer.

Back to Thanksgiving I would like to ask if any of you would like to live in the same area as 12 turkeys, 4 peacocks, and a tame doe.

We stayed at Ramsey Cabins in Hereford, AZ. The little cabin had atrocious well water but a well stocked kitchen to prepare the Thankgiving feast with. Picturesque enough amidst the trees at the foot of the mountains, the owner boasted loudly about his menagerie of animals. He told W.W. several times not to chase them.

Who’d want to after counting not one or two but 12 turkeys. All I could hope was not to return when they grew to adults to avoid being flogged!

Carr Canyon

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Thanksgiving Day found us on the road to Hereford, Arizona. On the way we stopped off at Fort Huachuca to collect our son. I made arrangements at a cabin just south of the base where we set up our Thanksgiving dinner all prepared by my wonderful husband the day before.

After the meal we decided to take a trip up Carr Canyon. There is a 6 mile stretch of road not for the meek and possibly 4 wheel drive recommended. Although our truck has 4 wheel drive, it is full sized which meant some negotiating of switchbacks. Once the Reef Campground has been achieved the road actually goes on farther past the summit.

For us, we topped the mountain then let the kids run free.

Once pine cone wars had been declared getting pictures seemed neigh on impossible!
