Selves

killlashandra & marty

This week we all got challenged with the self portrait. So many photographers dread pictures of themselves. I have toyed with the thought photographers take up the trade in order to avoid having themselves photographed.

Yes my antiquated camera has a timer on and yes I do own a tripod. Trapped on the floor with W.W. teetering on the edge of his toy box begging for attention on one side and E.C. crawling up my toes headed straight for my face, 10 seconds might be too long.

Forget the tripod. Take the discarded toy box lid and stack it on the couch cushion. Tilt my head back and smile for the blinking red light.

All the while attempting to ignore the little hand happily latched on to the center of my bra in a hurry to pull himself up into my lap. Needless to say I cropped that out of the picture!

PS – Marty sent me a black and white shot this morning. For fun I applied the same look to her shot and put them together this way too.

I love the story you choose to tell with your great photo…I wonder how many of us had kids demanding our attention while we did this???

  4. Stacy says:

Nice shots, ladies! I love your story of how you got it taken. Those little ones are so demanding! Usually when I take them I am either running home over lunch or I do it after they go to bed! I completely understand your predicament LOL! :)

Nice shots, and I love the grainy post-processing you applied – looks great!

love the close-ups. it’s so fun to see what people come up with when trying to “make do” in a challenging environment. these two go great together!

I would have never known that you had a little one crawling up your body. As moms we sure do know how to multi-task, huh?

  8. I am giggling reading about your process. :) I think many can relate. :) glad you had fun with it.

That’s why I took up the trade, lol. I hate being in front of the camera. These are nice! You done good!

Well, you’d never know you had a child clawing his way up you. Us moms can definitely put on a smile and make anything work. I love that you both did close ups.

I love the story…sound a lot like when I was trying to take mine. It seem like I always have a kid climbing on me. I like that you both did close ups and the processing is neat.

So inviting! So warm! These photos make me want to sit down with both you gals and enjoy a cup of tea. Perfect that you both did closeups, too.

  13. Melissa G says:

Lovely! You two both have really beautiful smiles.

  14. Nice shots! I’m not a photographer, but I seem to be surrounded by them in my life. Pointing the camera at yourself is a challenge for sure.
