Sunflower Desk Top Image

Everyone loves desktop pictures, moms especially. I certainly rotate my pictures at work and at home on the laptop weekly, if not every other day.

The most common size desktop wallpaper ratios are:

800×600
1024×768
1280×1024
1600×1200

To find your desktop display resolution do the following:

Right click on the desktop and select Properties in XP or Personalization in Vista.

Click Display Settings and a slider for Resolution with low at one end and high at the other appears. 1280 x 1024 (or 1280 x 800 for laptop users) is the most common. However, for people who like to see larger icons you could be using a lower resolution like 600 x 800.

Keep in mind the resolution you have set and find an image.

If you do not have a software editing tool but tons of pictures select an image in a viewer program like Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and right click to select Make Background Image or make the selection from the viewer program. Most digital camera images are taken at a higher resolution than 1280 x 1024 and will easily fill your desktop. However, it might not look exactly the way you want it.

Off to the editing software we go.

Here’s what I did in Photo Shop to resize the image.

Step 1

Open your image. Right click at the top of the dialogue box where the image name is and select image size.

Step 2

For a horizontal image change the Pixel Dimensions width and height to match your desk top resolution. Mine is 1024 x 768. When I change the width to 1024 the high automatically changes to 768.

For a vertical image change the width to 1024 then select the Crop tool. At the top click the Front Image button then change the height to 10.667 in. When you draw your box with the Crop tool it will automatically size the image correctly.

Save the image.
Step 3

After saving the image as a .jpg or .png file, locate the file on your computer, right click the file name, select Set as Desktop Background.

Check out my Horizontal desktop.

Check out my Vertical desktop.

Would love to join… but don’t have Photoshop or a current digital editing program. And words like Resolution and Apperture scare me.

    Good luck to y’all! :)
