Have A Seat

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Monday I played hooky.

Sort of, both kids had WIC appointments in the morning and some how I just did not feel up to driving 50 miles to work and back again for only a partial day.

Great excuse, right?

After dropping the kids off the husband and I ran errands, returned to the house and decided to go riding.

I have not been on a horse since probably October. Our horses had lazy thoughts on their brains as you can see below.

I ran the soft and faded action from Pioneer Woman and like the vintage look it provided.

We enjoyed a pleasant ride through the banks of the river and along the sand bars. My husband even convinced me to race him. Mouse and I won hands down. It felt quite exhilarating blowing out across the sand.

Shot from the ditch with the ole camera phone, looking at the Sandia Mountains in the distance.

I ran the sunshine action from Pioneer Woman. The burnt look of the image reminds me of fall, I like it.

Kicking the Horse Phobia

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Accidents happen.

A little over a week ago, W.W. decided to stand too close to Samson. Not to the side or in front, but behind him. We don’t know what fascinated his attention from that position. Since he could walk he hears, DON’T STAND BEHIND THE HORSE.

No, Samson did not kick him. He grazed him.

Whatever small thing fascinated W.W.’s attention that close to Samson’s rump, he missed the large horse raise his hind leg and stomp down to scatter the flies.

Maybe W.W. leaned, who knows, no one saw the accident. However, some part of the hind leg connected with W.W.’s chin leaving serious road rash and a screaming 4 year old on the ground. The chin healed nicely, but horse paranoi set in.

Late Sunday afternoon the husband and I decided to ride and take W.W. with us. We saddled up ole Cracker and prepared for the worst tantrum of the year to strike. The crying started long before leaving the house. Here his sister stepped in. Through her gentle cajoling about the wonders of our babysitter Cracker, she managed to get him into the yard and on the horse.

He insisted on being led out of the yard and down the road to the ditch. Well up the ditch bank and far from the house, we wound our way through the trees and W.W. gave up being ponied. Reins in one hand he became the happy rider once again.
On the way home we gently trotted on again off again letting W.W. win the race.

Hats and Horses

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Just shy of one year, I returned to the saddle. Yes, my butt may be too big from all those months of not riding. However, the sheer pleasure of leaving the kids with my step daughter saddling up and heading out made me smile all day long.

With the mornings cooling off I sported my new hat, a quarterhorse downward slope, and my new slicker straight from Australia. Sky diver girl should get a kick out of that one. For a custom hat that fits, I do recommend the Colorado Hat Company.

Whipping out the trusty ‘Zine down along the river bank, the husband humored me with some pictures.
